January 2nd - January 19th - Sexual Education - Please review the following files that we will be discussing in this class. Use them for your final presentation: Project information, Gender Roles, sex education videos on reproduction and pregnancy etc.









December 15th - Test on Substance Abuse - Open Book

December 4th - We will begin Substance Abuse. Below are the presentations we will be posted below:




Nov. 30th - We will move the 11/29th test to 12/1, as a result of using the class time to review. Please use the time you have on Thursday to review.

Nov. 29th - We will have a test on this day. The test will focus on some general topics discussed on diseases that were presented.


Oct. 25th-Nov. 29th - We will be reviewing diseases and prevention of diseases. Students will be required to do research on either a communicable or non-communicable disease and present on it. We will spend several classes working on the presentation, being sure to cover the following structure for presentation planning:
symptoms, individual impacts, treatment, familial impacts, societal impacts, current statistics, governmental impacts, people we know with the disorder etc.

Oct. 16th-20th - Prepare students to present their research. Key items in the presentation: What's the disorder, what it does, how one gets it, symptoms, individual impacts, treatment, familial impacts, societal impacts, statistics prior to 2000 and current statistics, governmental impacts, people we know with the disorder. Presentation

Oct. 10th - 13th Mental and Emotional Disorders. What are they? What are some major disorders? Assign topic for presentation. Discuss presentation tips.



Oct. 3rd - Oct. 5th Discuss the biggest factor/s affecting our Mental & Emotional Well Being - What is Stress?



Oct. 2nd - Watch a documentary on children with mental and emotional health issues in an institution in PA - What issues do we see?

Sept. 27th - Sept. 29th Mental & Emotional Health Presentation



Sept. 26th - What is Mental Health? - Discuss the documentary

Sept. 25th - Watch a documentary on Mental & Emotional Health.

2) Emotional and Mental Health – Sept. 25th – Oct. 25th
- We will start this unit by understanding stress and how to cope with it. - You will be keeping a “stress journal” in order to learn how to identify the stressors in your life and what you can do to cope with those stressors.
- We will then learn about a few major mental health disorders: Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia. We will study the causes, symptoms and treatments.
– We will prepare presentations both individually and in groups on Emotional and Mental Health. You will also be given a quiz at the end of this unit.

Sept. 22nd - End of Chapter - Seniors to 4H - Watch the Ted Talk on - A Single Story

Sept. 20th - Intro to Mental & Emotional Health - Watch a video on Mental & Emotional Health

Sept. 19th - Overview of Nutrition and Exercise.

Sept. 18th - Nutritional and Exercise test.



Sept. 15th - Review the Nutritional labels - Review for test

Sept. 13th - Begin Nutritional Facts chapter. - Discuss the value of Nutritional Facts and having a fact sheet on every label. Have students bring in N/Fact labels

Sept. 12th - We will have a test on Unit 1 and 2. Please prepare accordingly. Use both presentations (Nutrition & Exercise and Systems) as your study guide.


Sept. 8th and 11th - We will complete the Human Body Systems Chapter.


Unit 1 - Nutrition & Exercise

1) Nutrition and ExerciseAug. 23rd – Sept. 22nd
- We will do an overview on the human body and study how being unhealthy can destroy various organs. (We will watch a documentary)
- We will design an exercise and nutritional plan to practice and write a paper about the importance of nutrition and keeping you body healthy.
- There will be a test on nutrition and exercise at the end of the unit.



Aug. 23rd - Distribute Health Syllabus 2017, discuss the core

3) Diseases and Prevention – Oct. 26th – Nov. 22nd
- We will study viruses, bacteria and parasites and how they cause disease.
- We will also learn how and if you can cure them or prevent them. We will study cancer and genetic diseases and what happens in your body and cells to cause these.
- You will research a particular disease and make a presentation for the class. You will have a test on diseases, treatment, and preventions at the end of this unit.

4) Substance Abuse – Nov. 28th – Dec. 20th
- In this unit, we will study how drugs affect the brain on a chemical level and how/if they cause addiction and/or death.
- We will watch four videos of “Drugs Inc.” from National Geographic that will explain, in detail, how drugs are made, how they can destroy lives, and what the government is doing to stop the drug trade.
- You will choose one drug that you want to research and create a power point explaining all aspects of it.
- At the end of the unit, you will have a test on the drug’s affects on the brain and how they cause death.

5) Sexual Health – Jan. 3rd – Jan. 19th
- We will identify and learn about the male and female reproductive systems. We will learn how a baby is formed while studying the menstrual cycle. We will focus on hormones during this section.
- We will study various forms of prevention, remembering that abstinence is the only way to insure no pregnancy will happen.
- We will study Sexually Transmitted Disease and their treatments (if any) and preventions.
- We will look into healthy choices and how to have a respectful and safe relationship. You will have a test on all of this at the end of the unit.
